Chamber president Jim Carpenter and retired Senator Aaron Plyer are representing Union County today at the Charlotte Regional Roads Committee’s quarterly meeting in Concord. The group is an advocate for completion of the Monroe Bypass/Connector, I 485 and other major regional projects.

Wingate University Commencement–NBC political correspondent Luke Russert will be speaking at Commencement on Saturday, May 8 which begins at 9 a.m. outside on the Academic Quad. He’s the son of the late Tim Russert. He and Rick Hendrick will be receiving honorary doctorates.

Rick Hendrick is being honored for his dedication to the Haiti relief efforts. His plane flew daily roundtrips from NC to Haiti for a month. On the way down the plane was loaded with food, water, medical supplies and medical personnel. On return flights they brought orphaned children to safety and care.
